Georgetown Hoyas Vs Villanova Wildcats Basketball Game

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Micah Peavy hit a game-winning floater with 1.7 seconds left to cap a furious rally as Georgetown stunned Villanova 64-63 on Monday night at Capital One Arena. The Hoyas erased an eight-point deficit in the final 2:34 to snap a four-game losing streak and end a seven-game skid against the Wildcats.

Peavy, who finished with 24 points, including six 3-pointers, delivered the decisive shot from the left edge of the paint. Jayden Epps, returning from injury, added 15 points, while Thomas Sorber contributed 15 points and 11 rebounds for Georgetown (13-6, 4-4 Big East).

The game took a dramatic turn early when Villanova’s Wooga Poplar, the team’s second-leading scorer and top rebounder, was ejected less than eight minutes in. Poplar was tossed after shoving Epps and attempting to throw a punch during a scuffle over an inbounds pass.

Villanova (12-8, 5-4) was led by national scoring leader Eric Dixon, who scored 29 points, and Jordan Longino, who added 18. The Wildcats led by as many as 13 points in the second half and held a 12-point advantage with less than 10 minutes remaining before Georgetown’s comeback.

Epps sparked the rally with back-to-back 3-pointers, followed by two more from Peavy, cutting the deficit to 59-53 with 6:12 left. Villanova extended its lead to 63-55 on a Longino basket with 4:52 remaining, but the Wildcats went scoreless the rest of the way, missing their final five shots and committing three turnovers.

Georgetown closed the game on a 9-0 run, capped by Peavy’s steal and breakaway layup with 48 seconds left, setting up his game-winning shot. Dixon had a chance to win it for Villanova, but his off-balance jumper at the buzzer missed the mark.

The Hoyas led 25-24 late in the first half after a Peavy 3-pointer, but Villanova closed the half with a 10-2 run to take a 34-27 lead into the break. Despite the setback, the Wildcats remain in contention in the Big East, while Georgetown’s victory provides a much-needed boost in conference play.
