Georgia Amoore Basketball Kentucky Game Celebration

LEXINGTON, Ky. — Kentucky Wildcats guard Georgia Amoore made history on February 16, 2025, by becoming only the third player in NCAA Division I women’s basketball history to score more than 2,300 career points and record over 800 career assists during an 84-55 victory against Georgia.

Amoore, a projected top-ten pick in the upcoming WNBA draft, reached this milestone with a 3-point jumper that contributed to her 13-point game total. She joins Iowa‘s Caitlin Clark and Oregon‘s Sabrina Ionescu in this elite group, both of whom were selected first overall in their respective draft years.

“It’s an incredible honor to be mentioned in the same breath as legends like Caitlin and Sabrina,” Amoore said postgame. “I just focus on my team and doing my best on the court.”

The recognition of Amoore’s talent has translated into multiple accolades this season, including recent titles such as Ann Meyers Drysdale National Player of the Week and SEC Player of the Week, awarded on January 7 and February 3. Furthermore, she is a contender for the prestigious Jersey Mike's Naismith Trophy Player of the Year.

During her time at Virginia Tech, where she played under current Kentucky Head Coach Kenny Brooks, Amoore was instrumental in leading the Hokies to the Final Four in 2023. She has since continued to build her legacy with the Wildcats, breaking her own single-game scoring record earlier this season by scoring 43 points against No. 13 Oklahoma.

Amoore has also set a new standard in Kentucky’s women’s basketball program. She became the first player in the team’s history to achieve three games with seven or more made 3-pointers in a single season. Additionally, she reached 800 career assists during a game against No. 22 Alabama, making her only the second active player across all three divisions of college basketball to reach this milestone.

“Georgia’s work ethic and determination are unmatched,” Brooks remarked. “She has not only set the bar high for herself but also for future athletes at Kentucky.”

With the WNBA draft approaching, scouts are closely monitoring Amoore’s performance. Her combination of exceptional basketball skills and record-setting achievements positions her as a leading candidate for a top selection.

As the season progresses, the basketball world will be paying close attention to her ability to transcend her already impressive college career into future success at the professional level. Many anticipate Amoore’s legacy will parallel that of other greats like Clark and Ionescu.
