Georgia QB Carson Beck Transfers to Miami with $4M NIL Deal

Carson Beck Miami Hurricanes Quarterback

Former Georgia quarterback Carson Beck has committed to the University of Miami, announcing his decision on Instagram. Beck, who entered the NCAA transfer portal just 24 hours prior, will join the Hurricanes for his final season of eligibility after initially declaring for the 2025 NFL draft. The move comes amid reports of a $4 million Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) deal, marking a significant shift in college football’s financial landscape.

Beck, a two-year starter for the Bulldogs, boasts a 24-3 career record and led Georgia to back-to-back SEC championship appearances. However, a season-ending elbow injury during the SEC title game against Texas on Dec. 7 forced him to reconsider his NFL aspirations. After undergoing surgery on Dec. 23 to repair his ulnar collateral ligament, Beck received feedback suggesting he could be drafted anywhere between the first and third round, with uncertainty due to his inability to participate in pre-draft workouts.

“Based on the feedback and advice he received, Beck changed his mind and entered the portal as a graduate transfer,” sources told ESPN. The 6-foot-4, 220-pound redshirt senior is expected to miss spring practice as he continues his recovery but will aim to lead Miami into the College Football Playoff in 2025.

Beck’s arrival fills a critical void for the Hurricanes, who lacked a proven quarterback after Heisman Trophy finalist Cam Ward declared for the NFL draft. Ward, a former Washington State transfer, revitalized his draft stock with a standout season at Miami, finishing fourth in Heisman voting and becoming a projected top-10 pick. Beck will look to follow a similar path, leveraging his experience and talent to boost his NFL prospects.

During his tenure at Georgia, Beck threw for 7,426 yards and 57 touchdowns, earning second-team All-SEC honors in 2023 and twice being named a Manning Award finalist. His decision to transfer underscores the growing influence of NIL deals in college football, as players increasingly weigh the financial benefits of staying in school against the risks of entering the NFL draft prematurely.

Miami head coach Mario Cristobal hailed Beck’s commitment as a major recruiting victory. “Carson brings leadership, experience, and a winning mentality to our program,” Cristobal said. “We’re excited to see what he can accomplish in Coral Gables.”

Beck’s move also highlights the evolving dynamics of college football, where NIL money is reshaping player decisions. With top-tier athletes like Beck commanding multimillion-dollar deals, the line between college and professional football continues to blur, offering players unprecedented financial opportunities while delaying their entry into the NFL.
