Georgia Makes Euro Debut in Germany
Georgia has secured a spot in the European Championships in Germany, marking their debut in the prestigious tournament among 24 competing nations.
The entrance of Georgia ensures the continuation of the tradition where each edition of the Euros since 1960 features at least one debutant team, with Georgia becoming the 36th nation to partake in the tournament over its 17 editions.
Ranked 75th in the FIFA rankings, Georgia earned their qualification through playoffs against Luxembourg and Greece, ushered by the leadership of 36-year-old centre-back Guram Kashia, under the guidance of former French international Willy Sagnol who assumed the head coach role in 2021.
At the forefront of Georgia’s squad is Napoli forward Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, the team’s standout player and talisman. With an impressive tally of 15 goals, Kvaratskhelia is closing in on the record of 24 goals set by Shota Arveladze.
Placed in Group F, Georgia will face tough competition from Portugal, Turkey, and the Czech Republic as they embark on their maiden Euro campaign. The tournament kicks off on June 14, promising exciting matchups and fierce competition on the football pitch.
