Giants Aim for Series Sweep Over Struggling Astros Tonight

HOUSTON, Texas – The San Francisco Giants will look to complete a series sweep against the Houston Astros on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, with the first pitch scheduled for 4:10 p.m. ET at Daikin Park. Both teams are looking to establish their footing early in the season, with the Giants currently holding a 4-1 record.
After opening the season with a successful series against the Cincinnati Reds, taking two out of three games, the Giants have continued their momentum by winning both games against the Astros. They secured a 7-2 victory in the series opener and followed up with a 3-1 win on Tuesday. The standout player for San Francisco was Willy Adames, who contributed significantly to Tuesday’s game with two runs batted in.
Houston, on the other hand, has struggled offensively, currently ranked 28th in the league with an average of just 2.00 runs per game. They recently played a three-game series against the New York Mets, managing to win two tight contests but faltering against the Giants. José Altuve’s solo home run was one of the few highlights for the Astros in Tuesday’s loss.
“We need to find our rhythm at the plate,” said Altuve, reflecting on the team’s recent struggles. “We have great talent, and we just need to start converting these chances.” On the mound for the Astros will be Framber Valdez, who pitched seven scoreless innings in his season debut against the Mets. Valdez has proven to be a reliable starter, finishing the previous season with a 2.91 ERA.
The Giants will counter with rookie Lander Roupp, who is looking to rebound after a loss in his last outing against the St. Louis Cardinals. Last year, Roupp showcased promise, finishing with a 3.58 ERA over 50.1 innings, but has struggled to find consistency this season.
“We’re excited about how Lander has been developing,” Giants manager said. “He has the skills to be a great pitcher in this league, and we hope to see that today.”
The game will be broadcast live on local networks and available for streaming through Fubo and DirecTV Stream, both of which offer comprehensive access to MLB games for fans.
As the Giants aim to close out the series successfully, Houston is determined to turn their fortunes around at home. With both teams eager to showcase their talents, baseball fans can expect an exciting matchup this afternoon.
