EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — The New York Giants are gearing up for a pivotal moment as they prepare for the 2025 NFL Draft, kicking off Thursday night. With the No. 3 overall pick, they are in prime position to enhance their roster significantly.

At the forefront of speculation is Abdul Carter, an edge rusher from Penn State. Carter has proven himself a standout player, boasting 12 sacks and 23.5 tackles for loss in his last season. The Giants hope to add a game-changing talent like him to bolster their defense.

However, the question on everyone’s mind remains: what about the quarterback? General Manager Joe Schoen, who has not selected a quarterback in his first three drafts, is under pressure to address this critical position. With two veteran quarterbacks already signed, Russell Wilson at 36 and Jameis Winston at 31, Schoen understands the urgency. Yet, he insists he won’t draft a quarterback just to fill a gap.

Schoen highlighted the depth of this year’s quarterback class, which includes Jaxson Dart and Shedeur Sanders, whom the Giants have extensively scouted. He noted, “There’s quarterbacks in this draft that will go on and play and be starters in the league.” However, he is committed to picking a player he believes will fit their long-term vision.

As the Giants prepare for the draft, they have eight picks over the next three days, including the No. 34 pick in the second round. This offers a valuable opportunity to find a quarterback without reaching for one at the top of the order.

Though their immediate need may not be evident, the Giants finished the 2024 season with a disappointing 3-14 record, emphasizing the importance of bringing in impactful players—especially considering Thibodeaux, another edge rusher, is entering the final year of his contract.

“If there’s a blue-chip or generational-type talent or something you just can’t pass on, you don’t pass on that type of player,” Schoen said. This philosophy shapes the Giants’ draft strategy as they weigh their options between boosting their defense or finally securing their quarterback of the future.

Draft week is filled with anticipation, as the Giants weigh their options and strategize their picks. A decision made in the coming days could shape their franchise for years to come.
