Giants Eye Top QBs in 2025 NFL Draft: Sanders or Ward?
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — The New York Giants are intensifying their search for a new quarterback as the 2025 NFL Draft approaches, with Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders and Miami’s Cam Ward emerging as top prospects. The Giants, holding the No. 3 overall pick, have scouted both players extensively, sparking debates about who would be the better fit for head coach Brian Daboll‘s system.
Running back Tyrone Tracy Jr. has already voiced his preference. “To be honest with you, I’m a fan of Cam Ward,” Tracy told the New York Post. “Just because I think the passing and the running, that’s where the league is shifting to, and just off of Dabs’ offense, we have a whole bunch of QB runs and situations where the QB has to run.”
Tracy emphasized Ward’s dual-threat capabilities, noting his ability to excel in both passing and running situations. “I’m not saying other quarterbacks in the draft can’t run, I just know Cam Ward is the best off of film. He’s my favorite,” Tracy added. However, he acknowledged that his opinion carries no weight in the Giants’ decision-making process.
The Giants’ offensive system under Daboll has increasingly incorporated designed quarterback runs, a trend that began with Daniel Jones and continued with Drew Lock. This raises questions about how Sanders, a traditional pocket passer, would adapt. “Whoever comes in, they’re going to have to be passionate, just because Dabs is passionate,” Tracy said. “He wants a winner. He wants someone that has that high IQ but is also a leader at the same time.”
With the Titans and Browns holding the top two picks, both potentially eyeing quarterbacks, the Giants’ options at No. 3 remain uncertain. The 2025 quarterback class is considered weaker than previous years, but the Giants’ urgent need for a franchise quarterback makes it likely they will select one early in the draft.
As the draft approaches, the Giants’ front office, led by general manager Joe Schoen, faces a critical decision that could shape the team’s future. Whether they choose Sanders, Ward, or another prospect, the pressure is on to find a player who can lead the team back to contention.
