Giants Strengthen Defensive Line with Key Free Agent Moves

NEW YORK, NY — The New York Giants have made significant moves in preparation for the upcoming 2025 NFL season, focusing on bolstering their defense with strategic free agent signings. Free agency officially begins on March 12 at 4 p.m. ET, but teams have already engaged in negotiations ahead of this key date.

The Giants signed cornerback Paulson Adebo to enhance their secondary, seeking to address deficiencies noted in the previous season. Adebo, a former New Orleans Saints standout, recorded 10 passes defended in just 262 coverage snaps last year before suffering a serious injury. At 25 years old, he is viewed as a promising addition.

“He brings a young, ascending talent to our roster, and we believe he has the potential to develop into a shutdown corner,” said Giants General Manager Joe Schoen. “His performance in 2023, where he tallied 76 tackles and four interceptions, shows he can make impactful plays.”

However, Adebo’s recovery from a broken femur raises questions about his immediate contributions. Schoen acknowledged the risk, saying, “We are aware of his injury history, but we see this as a worthwhile gamble to shore up our defense.”

In parallel, the Giants have also added defensive lineman Roy Robertson-Harris on a two-year deal, focusing on enhancing their run defense that struggled last season. Robertson-Harris, known for his power rushing capabilities, brings experience and depth, having played with the Seattle Seahawks and Jacksonville Jaguars last year.

“Adding Roy was a priority for us,” Schoen stated. “He may not be the only addition to our defensive line as we aim for improvements through both free agency and the draft, which features a strong group of defensive linemen.”

Despite turning 32 this summer, Robertson-Harris is expected to fill a critical rotational role, aiding the Giants’ efforts in stopping the run game. The Giants’ defensive line previously relied heavily on a limited group, and this acquisition signals a shift towards a more robust defense.

In related moves, the Giants also re-signed linebacker Tomon Fox and center Casey Kreiter, both pivotal players from the last season. Fox has shown potential as a young player, making significant contributions on both defense and special teams.

Kreiter, a two-time team captain, has been recognized for his leadership and stability in the center of the offensive line. “Bringing back players who understand our system and can lead in the locker room is essential for us,” Schoen added.

The Giants are also preparing for the upcoming NFL Draft, which begins April 24, and aim to capitalize on the opportunities presented by a deep talent pool. The offseason moves signal a proactive approach by the Giants to secure a more competitive roster in the challenging NFC East.
