Gilgeous-Alexander’s 48 Points Propel Thunder to Victory Over Pistons

DETROIT, MI — Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored 48 points, leading the Oklahoma City Thunder to a 113-107 victory against the Detroit Pistons on Saturday night. The Thunder, now 55-12, secured their ninth win in ten games, showcasing a blend of offensive firepower and resilient defense.
Gilgeous-Alexander shot 17 of 26 from the floor, including four of six from beyond the arc, while adding six assists and three steals to his impressive performance. Cason Wallace contributed with 20 points, and Isaiah Hartenstein recorded a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
The Pistons struggled early, matching a season-low with just 11 points in the third quarter before Cade Cunningham was ejected for arguing a call. Cunningham scored a team-high 18 points before his exit, while Dennis Schroder stepped up, contributing 17 points and 11 assists.
Despite shooting 50% (8 of 16) from three-point range in the first half, the Pistons trailed 55-54 at halftime. They seemed to gain momentum when Cunningham made a buzzer-beating layup to end the third quarter, pulling Detroit within two points, 91-75, before the final period.
Gilgeous-Alexander responded decisively in the fourth quarter, scoring a crucial three-pointer and two layups that widened the Thunder’s lead to 106-100 with just over two minutes left. He then assisted Wallace’s decisive three-pointer to ensure the win.
The game was marked by a series of technical fouls issued to the Pistons, a reflection of their frustrations. Detroit received five technicals in the third quarter alone, three of which stemmed from the prolonged argument over calls, leading to a significant 4-point advantage for Oklahoma City on that possession.
Thunder coach Mark Daigneault praised Gilgeous-Alexander’s performance, stating, “His ability to control the game and deliver in crunch time is what makes him special.” Meanwhile, Pistons coach Monty Williams acknowledged the team’s need to improve their focus and discipline, noting, “We can play better, but tonight we let our emotions get the best of us.”
Oklahoma City will look to continue their winning streak on Sunday against the Milwaukee Bucks, while the Pistons are set to face the New Orleans Pelicans on Monday.
