Gilgeous-Alexander Surpasses Jordan’s Scoring Streak in NBA Milestone

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. — Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of the Oklahoma City Thunder has made history by surpassing Michael Jordan with his 70th consecutive game scoring 20 or more points during a recent matchup. This milestone was achieved during a game against the opponent on April 4, 2025, where he scored 22 points, further solidifying his status as a frontrunner for the 2024-25 NBA MVP award.
Gilgeous-Alexander’s performance this season has been nothing short of remarkable, averaging 32.6 points per game and helping the Thunder secure the league’s best record. The point guard’s consistency has been crucial for his team, despite the Thunder having their impressive 11-game winning streak halted shortly before his recent achievement.
Prior to his scoring streak, Gilgeous-Alexander’s only dip below 20 points this season occurred on October 30 during the Thunder’s fourth game, where he managed 18 points in a win. Since then, he has not only made scoring over 20 points in every game a routine but has also set his sights on breaking the all-time record of consecutive 20-point games.
With five regular-season games remaining, Gilgeous-Alexander is poised to challenge the records set by legendary players Wilt Chamberlain and Oscar Robertson, who hold the first and second spots, respectively, for the longest 20-point scoring streaks at 80 and 76 games.
Chamberlain, who set his streak in two separate seasons, did so during an era unlike any we have seen more than 60 years ago. The pressure is on Gilgeous-Alexander, especially with the playoffs approaching. Should he continue his streak into the playoffs, it could secure him a place in the record books.
“I just try to take it one game at a time,” Gilgeous-Alexander said after the game. “Scoring is important, but winning is what matters the most. If we can keep achieving that, then everything else will fall into place.”
As the Thunder are firmly positioned as title favorites, it remains to be seen whether Gilgeous-Alexander will prioritize his streak or focus on winning the championship. Previous playoff performances hint that he is more than capable of maintaining his scoring average against top competition, scoring 24 points or more in all 10 of OKC’s playoff games last year.
The upcoming playoff series will give him an opportunity to rewrite history while competing for the ultimate prize — an NBA championship. The Thunder’s coaching staff will have to decide how to manage players as they enter the postseason, potentially offering Gilgeous-Alexander some rest in their final regular-season games to keep him fresh and healthy.
