MIAMI, FloridaSantiago Gimenez seeks to end a month-long goal drought as Mexico prepares to face Canada in the final of the Concacaf Nations League. The forward, who last found the net on February 18, is under pressure to deliver after a disappointing stretch that includes six games without a score.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Gimenez’s scoring troubles coincide with his position on the field. He has often played deeper than expected, impacting his effectiveness as a striker. During recent matches against teams like Bologna, Lazio, and Como, Gimenez’s average position indicated he was not the most advanced player, which contradicts his role as a primary offensive threat.

Milan Manager Sergio Conceicao has encouraged Gimenez to participate more in build-up play, but the strategy has not yielded positive results. He has often looked out of his comfort zone and struggled to make significant contributions. “I am willing to sacrifice for the team,” Gimenez stated, “but I need to find my rhythm to be more effective in front of goal.”

In contrast, Tammy Abraham has been more impactful as a substitute, showcasing a style of play that aligns better with Milan’s current strategy. Abraham’s involvement has sparked discussions about how best to utilize Gimenez moving forward. “Milan should aim to position him closer to the opponent’s goal,” said a club analyst. “He needs to be in positions where he can capitalize on scoring chances.”

Despite the recent lack of success, there remains a commitment to Gimenez, who was acquired for €30 million. Concerns about his fitness and recent missed opportunities further complicate his situation. “While he has not performed to expectations, we believe he can recover,” the analyst added.

In other Milan news, Fikayo Tomori remains in a complex position following his rejection of offers from Juventus and Tottenham in January. Since then, he has spent the last five league games on the bench. Tuttosport reports that Tomori may be more open to a transfer this summer due to his limited playtime, with Premier League clubs likely to show interest.

Tomori’s contract runs through 2027, and while his value may not have significantly changed, any potential move would need to approach €30 million. Whether Tottenham will make another attempt remains uncertain, especially given Tomori’s prior reluctance to leave Milan.
