Las Vegas, Nevada – Brazilian fighter Luana Gomes is determined to showcase her growth at the UFC event on May 17, 2025, as she faces off against Ashley Reed. The 25-year-old strawweight, who has made headlines for her knockout power, is shifting her focus to becoming a more complete fighter.

Gomes, who holds a professional record of 10-3, encountered a setback last year when she lost to an experienced veteran. This loss prompted her to rethink her fighting strategy. “I had a huge heart but I wasn’t mature or smart, so I was looking for that now,” Gomes told MMA Fighting. “I’m trying to become a complete fighter.”

After this loss, she rebounded with two decision victories, bringing her UFC record to 4-2. Gomes is aware that her fighting style must evolve, while also addressing fan expectations. She explained, “It’s especially hard because of the boos. People like to see fighters literally breaking each other in there.”

Gomes recognizes that balancing exciting performances with her development as a fighter is essential. “I’m not aiming at money, I’m not aiming at rankings, I’m aiming at becoming better than I was in my last fight,” she stated. This year, her goal is to grow as both an athlete and a person.

The matchup against Reed is significant, as Reed, a former Cage Fury champion, enters the bout with a record of 4-4 in the UFC. Gomes sees this fight as a challenge to further test her skills. “I don’t think [Reed] will last three rounds because I have a good eye for a knockout,” Gomes said confidently. “But I want more.”

If successful, Gomes plans to request a fight outside the APEX to expose herself to a larger audience. She believes her blend of aggressiveness and intelligence will lead her to victory. “That’s what separates the ones at the top. I think I have that aggressiveness and I’m a bit smarter for this fight,” she concluded.
