WIMBLEDON, England — Grass-court tennis may only take up a small part of the season, but it is critical for many players’ careers. This surface has seen the rise of several legendary WTA Tour champions, all of whom have excelled during their time on grass.

We take a closer look at the WTA players with the highest win percentages on grass, focusing on those with at least 50 match wins, including some former world No. 1s and multi-time Grand Slam champions.

Russian player Maria Sharapova is remembered for her 2004 Wimbledon triumph, along with her two Birmingham titles, amassing a total of 83 match wins on grass and only 21 losses. Her win rate of 79.80% places her seventh all-time in WTA history.

Venus Williams, known for her dominance on grass, boasts a remarkable win record with five Wimbledon titles among others. Williams achieved 98 wins and only 22 losses for a win percentage of 81.66%, ranking her sixth in WTA history.

Despite never winning Wimbledon, Justine Henin reached two finals and three semi-finals, securing four grass-court titles. Henin’s grass record of 53-11 gives her a win percentage of 82.81%, placing her fifth overall.

Steffi Graf, a grass-court star, won seven titles at Wimbledon and recorded a stunning 85.00% win rate based on 100 total matches.

Chris Evert, although sometimes overlooked, stands with 17 grass titles and a record of 242 wins with just 45 losses. Her win percentage of 87.36% ranks third in WTA history.

Serena Williams, often considered the best grass-court player, captured eight grass titles, including seven at Wimbledon. With 107 wins against only 15 losses, her 87.70% win rate puts her second.

Leading the pack is Martina Navratilova, who claims the record for the most grass-court titles at 32, including nine Wimbledon victories. Navratilova recorded 307 match wins and only 39 losses, yielding an impressive win percentage of 88.72%.

The statistics illustrate not only the success these players have had on grass but also the importance of this surface in their careers.
