Griekspoor and Kecmanovic Face Off in Rome Masters First Round

Rome, Italy – The main draw competition at the Rome Masters begins Tuesday, featuring a highly anticipated matchup between Tallon Griekspoor and Miomir Kecmanovic. The two players, who have faced each other four times previously, are set to renew their rivalry in what promises to be another thrilling encounter.
Griekspoor and Kecmanovic matches have consistently delivered excitement. Their last four meetings have gone to a final set, including three consecutive tiebreakers at the 2024 ‘s-Hertogenbosch event, and a five-set match at Wimbledon just weeks ago. In their most recent showdown at the Indian Wells Masters, Griekspoor captured a 3-1 lead in their head-to-head series by winning 6-7(5), 6-4, 6-3.
Their fifth battle will take place during first-round action at the Internazionali BNL d’Italia on Wednesday. Griekspoor has shown impressive consistency this year, with clay-court highlights including a runner-up finish in Marrakech and a quarterfinal appearance in Munich. Meanwhile, Kecmanovic, who recently celebrated a title at Delray Beach, is looking to regain his form after a solid semifinal run at the Estoril Challenger.
“I think I can take advantage of my clutch performances,” said Griekspoor, hinting at his competitive edge. This mental toughness could prove crucial as the players vie for a spot in the next round.
In another first-round match, Jiri Lehecka will face Alexandre Muller. Lehecka, ranked No. 38, has struggled lately, with a disappointing 1-6 record over his last seven matches, dating back to mid-February.
This will be Lehecka’s third encounter with Muller, who has won their previous meetings in 2021. “I’ve learned a lot since then, and I feel confident going into this match,” said Muller, who is currently ranked No. 39 and finds himself on his favorite surface.
Muller, a two-time ATP finalist on clay, recently reached the third round in Madrid, making this a prime opportunity for him to secure a minor upset against Lehecka in Rome.
The atmosphere surrounding the matches suggests intense competition, with both players eager to advance in the tournament.
