Grigor Dimitrov Roland Garros Injury

Paris, France – Grigor Dimitrov‘s first-round match at Roland Garros ended abruptly on Tuesday due to injury. The 16th seed was forced to retire while leading against American qualifier Ethan Quinn.

Dimitrov had a strong start, winning the first two sets 6-2, 6-3. However, during the second set, he received treatment for a left thigh injury. This hindered his movement in the third set, where he eventually dropped a set, leading to his decision to retire with the score at 2-6, 6-3, 2-6.

Currently, Dimitrov holds a season record of 14 wins and 10 losses, placing him at No. 19 in the ATP Live Rankings. With this withdrawal, there are concerns he may drop out of the Top 20 for the first time since July 2023.

Quinn, ranked a career-high World No. 106, advances to the second round where he will face a lucky loser. Quinn expressed his disappointment for the occasion, stating, “I hope Grigor recovers quickly. He’s a great player.”

Dimitrov’s retirement marks the first time in the Open Era that a player has retired at four consecutive Grand Slam events during men’s singles matches. Fans were left disappointed as the former World No. 3 struggled with his physical condition.
