Grizzlies Edge Rockets 120-119 in Thrilling Comeback Victory
MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Memphis Grizzlies snapped their losing streak against the Houston Rockets with a dramatic 120-119 comeback victory Thursday night at FedExForum. The win marked the Grizzlies’ first triumph over the Rockets this season.
In a matchup of present and future centers, Memphis’ Steven Adams outdueled rookie Zach Edey, finishing with 11 points and 10 rebounds compared to Edey’s five points and two boards. The Grizzlies overcame a late deficit in the fourth quarter to secure the win.
“It was a hard-fought game, and our guys showed tremendous resilience,” said Grizzlies head coach Taylor Jenkins. “We’ve struggled against Houston this season, so this win means a lot.”
Edey, playing with a protective face mask due to a nasal fracture, has missed 14 of the Grizzlies’ 47 games this season. The rookie center has shown flashes of potential, averaging 9.6 points, 7.5 rebounds and 1.2 blocks per game.
Houston had won the first three meetings between the teams this season and was looking for a series sweep. The Rockets’ defense made it difficult for Edey, who shot just 2-for-4 from the field in 17 minutes of action.
The Grizzlies improved to 25-22 on the season and will look to build on the momentum when they face the Milwaukee Bucks on Sunday. Memphis remains in the hunt for a playoff spot in the competitive Western Conference.
“We know every game matters at this point in the season,” Adams said. “This was a big win for us, but we’ve got to keep grinding.”
