Grizzlies Host Knicks in Anticipated High-Scoring Showdown

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Memphis Grizzlies (38-20) will host the New York Knicks (38-20) on Friday at 8 p.m. ET in a matchup of two high-scoring teams coming off thrilling recent performances.
The Grizzlies are riding high after a wild 151-148 overtime victory against the Phoenix Suns on Tuesday, showcasing their offensive prowess with 14 three-pointers and a season-high 29.1 assists per game. Despite a down year in scoring for star guard Ja Morant, he remains integral to the team’s success, having scored 29 points in the recent win.
“We’ve found a nice rhythm with this group,” said head coach Taylor Jenkins. “The ball movement and our shooting have really improved, and it shows in our numbers.”
In contrast, the Knicks are looking to build on their own success, having defeated the Philadelphia 76ers 110-105 on Wednesday. New York, bolstered by the addition of Karl-Anthony Towns, is seeking to overcome defensive struggles, ranking second-worst in the league with a 120.9 defensive rating over their last 10 games.
The Knicks’ challenge was underscored in their last matchup against the Grizzlies, where they triumphed 143-106 at Madison Square Garden in late January. In that game, the Knicks outscored the Grizzlies 83-54 in the second half.
“We’ve got to tighten up defensively,” said Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau. “Memphis can score in bunches, and we need to be ready for that.”
In their latest encounter, the Grizzlies are favored by 4 points with the over/under set at 244.5 — the highest of the night. Historical data suggests that both teams have the potential to exceed this total based on their recent scoring.
Betting on a shootout seems plausible considering the Grizzlies’ explosive offense, which leads the league at 123.3 points per game, while the Knicks hold the third spot with 117.7 points per game. However, New York’s recent play indicates they might struggle to reach the necessary total, landing under that mark in three of their last four games.
Key injuries could also play a significant role in the outcome. For the Knicks, Towns and Josh Hart are both listed as questionable due to knee issues. On the Grizzlies’ side, Desmond Bane‘s status remains uncertain due to a groin injury.
As the two teams prepare for this high-stakes clash, fans are eager to see which squad can claim victory and jockey for position as the postseason approach. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m. ET at FedExForum.
