GUADALAJARA, Mexico — Mexican football club Guadalajara is in advanced negotiations to acquire Argentine midfielder Luka Romero from AC Milan, according to reports from Mexican journalist Rodrigo Camacho. The 20-year-old player, currently on loan to Spanish club Alaves, has a purchase clause set at $7 million.

Romero, born in 2004, is considered one of the most promising young talents in South American football. He joined AC Milan in 2023 but was loaned to Alaves earlier this year with an option to buy. Guadalajara is reportedly negotiating directly with Milan to secure his transfer.

“The talks are ongoing, and both clubs are optimistic about reaching an agreement soon,” Camacho said in a recent report. “Guadalajara sees Romero as a key addition to their squad for the upcoming season.”

Romero’s potential move to Mexico would mark a significant step in his career, as he has yet to establish himself as a regular starter in Europe. His versatility and technical skills have drawn attention from several clubs, but Guadalajara appears to be leading the race for his signature.

If the deal is finalized, Romero would join a growing list of international players who have made the move to Liga MX, Mexico’s top football division. The league has increasingly become a destination for young talents seeking playing time and exposure.

AC Milan, which holds Romero’s contract, has not yet commented publicly on the negotiations. However, sources close to the club suggest they are open to selling the player if the terms are favorable.

Guadalajara, one of Mexico’s most storied clubs, is looking to bolster its roster after a mixed performance in the recent Liga MX season. The addition of Romero could provide the team with the creative spark it needs to compete for titles in 2025.
