Guardians Rally in Sixth to Beat Yankees 3-2

CLEVELAND, Ohio — The Cleveland Guardians came from behind to defeat the New York Yankees 3-2 on Tuesday night at Progressive Field. With this win, the Guardians extended their winning streak to five games and improved their home record to 7-1.
Starting pitcher Tanner Bibee (2-2) struggled initially, allowing a home run to New York’s Ben Rice on the first pitch of the game. Despite this setback, he managed to recover, pitching six innings and giving up only two runs and five hits while walking three batters.
“I just tried to settle in after the first pitch,” Bibee said. “I knew I had to keep the team in the game, and luckily I did.”
New York’s Aaron Judge had a standout performance, going 4 for 4 at the plate, raising his batting average to an impressive .411, the highest in the league. The Yankees managed to lead 2-0 after the fifth inning, thanks to a sacrifice fly from Jazz Chisholm Jr. that scored Judge.
The game’s momentum shifted in the sixth inning for Cleveland. With two singles from Steven Kwan and Nolan Jones, the Guardians were poised for a rally. After a strikeout of José Ramírez, Kwan and Jones attempted a double steal. When a wild pitch from Mark Leiter Jr. allowed Kwan to score, the Guardians cut the Yankees’ lead to 2-1.
“That was a heads-up play by Kwan,” said Guardians manager. “We needed something to spark the offense.”
Kyle Manzardo then delivered a game-tying double, and Angel Martinez followed with an infield single that allowed Manzardo to cross the plate, giving Cleveland a 3-2 edge.
Cade Smith closed for the Guardians, needing only four pitches to retire the side in the ninth, earning his second save of the series.
The Guardians will look to complete the series sweep against the Yankees on Wednesday, with first pitch set for 1:10 PM EDT.
