Gymnast Simone Biles Eyes Future Options in Buenos Aires

Buenos Aires, Argentina — Simone Biles, the most decorated gymnast in history with 11 Olympic medals and 23 world championship golds, is in Buenos Aires for activities honoring the city’s designation as the 2027 World Capital of Sport.
During a speech to a gathering of athletes and youth on October 8, Biles mentioned she has not ruled out competing in the 2028 Olympics. “I am currently taking some time off from the gym because I think it’s really important that your physical health matches your mental health,” said the 28-year-old athlete. “That’s why you saw so much of my success in Paris, because the mental and the physical were right on par.”
Biles, who won three gold medals at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, shared insights about her journey, particularly her decision at the Tokyo Games to prioritize her mental health. “I think practicing for Tokyo, there were a little bit of mental health issues going on already that I was neglecting,” Biles recalled. “For so many years, mental health has been a voodoo topic. And it has been deemed as a weakness, when really we should switch the conversation up and think of it as courageous and strong.”
While attending the event, Biles also announced plans to host a gymnastics clinic for budding talent in Buenos Aires, further emphasizing her commitment to the sport and the next generation of gymnasts.
