Hailey Van Lith Upgraded to Probable for Season Opener

CHICAGO, IL — Hailey Van Lith, the Chicago Sky‘s No. 11 pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft, has been upgraded to probable for the team’s season opener against the Indiana Fever on Saturday. Van Lith was initially listed as questionable due to an ankle injury she sustained during practice this week, but coach Tyler Marsh provided a positive update on her status.
Van Lith’s injury does not appear to be serious. She is expected to make her WNBA debut in a highly anticipated matchup. During preseason, she averaged six points and 4.3 assists while playing in a backup point guard role. Her go-ahead 3-pointer in the Sky’s recent win showcased her potential.
The rookie began her collegiate career at Louisville before transferring to LSU for her senior season. Despite helping the Tigers reach the Elite Eight, her transition was challenging. Instead of going pro last year, she opted to use her extra eligibility and moved to TCU, where she thrived under Mark Campbell’s system, contributing significantly to the Horned Frogs reaching the Elite Eight.
Van Lith’s transition to the professional league has been smooth, particularly with the familiarity of playing alongside former LSU teammate Angel Reese, who was drafted third overall by the Sky. “I felt aligned with the Sky’s vision for me as a player,” Van Lith said. “I was hopeful they would select me.”
The Indiana Fever enter the season with their own set of expectations, highlighted by the return of stars like Caitlin Clark, the 2023 Rookie of the Year, who averaged 19.2 points and 8.4 assists last season. The Fever have bolstered their roster with the addition of veterans including DeWanna Bonner and Natasha Howard.
The upcoming game at Gainbridge Fieldhouse is not just a season opener; it represents a continuation of a fierce rivalry between the two teams. Fans are excited as both the Fever and Sky strive for an early statement win in the 2025 season.
