Halsey Drops Kate Bush-Inspired Track Ahead of New Album Release
For pop singer Halsey, love is portrayed as a matter of life or death in her newly released track, “I Never Loved You.” Drawing inspiration from iconic music artist Kate Bush, the song delves into the emotional intricacies of a relationship’s end, with lyrics comparing it to open-heart surgery. “I never loved you in vain,” Halsey croons over subdued synths and somber piano chords.
“I Never Loved You” is part of Halsey’s promotional rollout for her fifth studio album, “The Great Imposter,” which is set to be released on October 25th. The single follows other album tracks and is a continuation of the singer’s thematic exploration of musical influences.
Halsey announced the release of her new single on social media, dressing as an Eighties-era Kate Bush to pay homage to the artist. She advised fans that “this song cuts deep,” referencing the emotional depth captured in the track.
Lyrically, the song seems to allude to Halsey’s past relationship with Alev Aydin, with whom she shares a child. In a previous track inspired by Britney Spears, Halsey alluded to her breakup when she sang, “Became a single mom at my premiere.”
“The Great Imposter” is expected to delve further into Halsey’s personal experiences, with the artist having stated, “I made this record in the space between life and death.” Halsey’s announcement of the album followed her diagnosis with a condition she has yet to disclose publicly.
The album is a tribute to various musical icons that have influenced Halsey’s career. Each track release is correlated with Halsey’s impersonation of a different music legend, creating a countdown to the full album launch.
