Hamburger SV Breaks Losing Streak With 4-0 Victory

HAMBURG, Germany — The Hamburger SV soccer team celebrated a significant victory on May 3, 2025, defeating SV Darmstadt 98 with a score of 4-0. This win not only broke a recent losing streak but also placed the team at the top of the 2. Bundesliga table with 56 points.
Captain Ludovit Reis scored the opening goal in the 23rd minute, heading the ball into the net after a corner from Miro Muheim. Reis’s presence was crucial, as he had just returned from a three-week absence that saw the team struggle without him.
Things heated up in the second half when Ransford Königsdörffer showcased his skills, executing an impressive volley to make it 2-0 in the 58th minute. A brief scuffle occurred between players Selke and Vukotic, leading to both receiving yellow cards, which will keep Vukotic sidelined for their next match against Kaiserslautern.
Davie Selke added another goal in the 80th minute, marking his 21st goal of the season, before Robert Glatzel wrapped up the scoring with a fourth goal in stoppage time. This win was especially vital for Hamburg, who, after three matches without a win, now have their sights set on Bundesliga promotion.
Despite this setback, Darmstadt was able to hold onto their twelfth place in the standings with 39 points. The game started with an intense pace but saw few clear chances until Reis broke the deadlock.
The HSV’s solid defense ensured that Darmstadt struggled to create significant opportunities. While Darmstadt’s offense looked to respond, including a close attempt in the first two minutes of the second half, they failed to convert any chances into goals.
Hamburg’s next match is scheduled against SSV Ulm, where they could finalize their promotion back to the Bundesliga. Darmstadt, on the other hand, will face Kaiserslautern on Sunday.
