Harrisonburg’s Four-Star Recruit Mickens Commits to Virginia Tech
HARRISONBURG, PA – Four-star running back Nick Mickens has committed to Virginia Tech after an official visit last weekend. The 2026 recruit, previously committed to Penn State, made the announcement on Tuesday.
Mickens visited Virginia Tech shortly after the hiring of new head coach James Franklin. He expressed excitement about the school’s environment, stating, “The campus was beautiful. It’s a really nice school. I liked everything about it. They had a very good environment. People were very welcoming and genuine up there.”
Previously committed to Penn State in August 2023, Mickens decommitted on November 19, following the firing of Franklin, who had held his commitment for over two years. After reopening his recruitment, Mickens narrowed his options to Indiana, Oklahoma, and Ole Miss.
ESPN ranks Mickens as the No. 141 overall recruit in the 2026 ESPN 300, and he now becomes the leading member of Virginia Tech’s recruiting class. During his freshman season, Mickens demonstrated impressive skills in both the running and passing games, showing big-play ability and strong consistency.
Virginia Tech is looking to capitalize on Mickens’ talents, with plans to grow their recruiting class ahead of the early signing period on December 3. The Hokies are aiming to enhance their roster after a challenging 3-8 season.
With a promising career ahead, Mickens’ commitment reflects a significant development for the Hokies as they seek to rebuild their program under new leadership.
