Hawkeyes Secure Former Kansas State Guard Brendan Hausen

Iowa City, Iowa – The Iowa Hawkeyes have added former Kansas State guard Brendan Hausen to their roster, marking a significant commitment in the NCAA transfer portal cycle. Hausen, who previously played for Villanova, made the announcement today, highlighting Iowa’s growing stature under new head coach Ben McCollum.
In his collegiate career, Hausen has participated in 66 games, helping his teams achieve a total of 35 wins, including 20 victories in BIG EAST play and contributing to consecutive NIT appearances. Standing 6-foot-4, Hausen averaged 10.9 points and 2.5 rebounds per game during his last season at Kansas State, where he started every game.
Known for his shooting skills, Hausen connected on 39% of his field goal attempts and 38.9% of his three-point shots last season, making 90 of 232 attempts from beyond the arc. His ability to shoot effectively from long range has made him a valuable asset in the increasingly competitive college basketball landscape.
Initially recruited by Hall of Fame coach Jay Wright at Villanova, Hausen transferred to Kansas State for his junior season, where he continued to develop his skills and enhance his shooting percentage. Now, the Hawkeyes’ coaching staff is keen to capitalize on his sharpshooting capabilities.
Shortly after entering the transfer portal, Hausen was contacted by Iowa, along with several other programs, including Texas A&M. The Hawkeyes appear to be among the first to show significant interest, and this relationship quickly led to his commitment.
Ben McCollum, who has taken the reins at Iowa, has been proactive in reshaping the roster, combining a potent mix of incoming transfers to reform the team’s dynamics. As the new head coach makes his mark, acquiring a player of Hausen’s caliber is seen as a major step forward.
Hauser’s high school scouting report noted his strengths as a shooting guard with excellent long-range capabilities and a smart understanding of the game. However, there are areas for improvement, particularly with his ball-handling under pressure.
“Hausen is a long-range threat whose overall understanding of how to play makes him a more efficient basketball player,” the report stated. “He is a true shooting guard who plays better off the ball.”
Hausen has one year of eligibility left and will spend that season with the Hawkeyes, providing a compelling option as they aim to strengthen their upcoming campaign in the Big Ten.
