Hawks End Three-Game Skid with Victory Over Heat

ATLANTA, GA — The Atlanta Hawks halted their three-game losing streak with a 98-86 victory over the Miami Heat on February 24, 2025, at State Farm Arena. Trae Young had a quiet scoring night with 11 points and 14 assists, guiding the Hawks to a crucial win that helps them maintain positioning in the playoff race.
Onyeka Okongwu led Atlanta’s scoring efforts with 17 points, adding eight rebounds. Contributions from the bench were significant, with Terance Mann and Caris LeVert each providing 15 points. The Hawks dominated the boards and played strong defense throughout the game, a key to their success against Miami.
The game marked a stark difference from the previous night’s matchup, where the Hawks permitted the Detroit Pistons to shoot 59.1% from the field. Against the Heat, Atlanta restricted their opponents to just 32.1% shooting, showcasing a much-improved defensive effort.
Despite leading the way for Miami, Andrew Wiggins‘ 23 points could not salvage the game for the Heat, who have now lost six of their last seven contests. Miami struggled from beyond the arc, missing 13 of their first 14 3-point attempts.
“We talked about the need to play better defensively, especially after our last game,” Hawks head coach Quin Snyder said. “I’m pleased with our effort tonight.”
Young’s ability to distribute the ball was evident, despite his off night shooting just 4-for-14 from the floor. Dyson Daniels provided an excellent defensive performance with seven steals and ten points, playing a pivotal role in limiting Miami’s scoring opportunities.
“I think we’re starting to find our rhythm as a team,” Young said. “Tonight, the bench really stepped up, which we’ll need moving forward.”
Key moments included a successful challenge by Atlanta that negated a foul on Young, preserving a six-point lead late in the fourth quarter. Mann’s critical 3-pointer following the challenge extended the lead further, securing the game for the Hawks.
With the victory, Atlanta moves past Miami into eighth place in the Eastern Conference standings, vital as both teams vie for potential playoff positioning.
The Hawks will face the Heat again on February 26 for the third meeting between the two teams this season, aimed at clinching the season series. “We know the importance of upcoming games, especially against teams we’re closely competing with,” Snyder added.
Attendance for the contest was 16,189, showcasing strong fan support as the Hawks look to build momentum moving forward in the season.
