ATLANTA, GA — In a significant pre-deadline trade, the Atlanta Hawks have sent guard Bogdan Bogdanović to the Los Angeles Clippers in exchange for Terance Mann, Bones Hyland, and three future second-round draft picks. The deal was confirmed by a team source and first reported by ESPN on February 6, 2025.
The move comes as the Hawks, currently ninth in the Eastern Conference standings with a 23-28 record, shift their strategy following a disappointing season. Bogdanović’s trade marks a major change for the team after they previously dealt star guard Dejounte Murray to the New Orleans Pelicans.
Hawks General Manager Landry Fields acknowledged the challenges faced by Bogdanović during his tenure, citing his battle with injuries this season. ‘He brought passion and heart to our team, but we felt we needed to make a change,’ Fields said in a statement.
At 32 years old, Bogdanović averaged 10.0 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.0 assists in 24 games this season. He is coming off an Olympic bronze medal with Serbia, where he averaged 18 points per game. Despite his contributions, he struggled with a hamstring issue earlier in the season and has been shooting only 30.1 percent from three-point range.
On the other side, the Clippers benefit from acquiring Bogdanović, who is recognized for his shooting prowess, especially from beyond the arc, where he has a career average of 38 percent. ‘We believe Bogdanović will bring valuable scoring and veteran experience to our roster,’ said Clippers President of Basketball Operations Lawrence Frank.
In exchange for Bogdanović, the Clippers have sent Mann and Hyland to Atlanta. Mann, who has spent six seasons with the Clippers, is a versatile guard/forward known for his defensive skills, averaging 6.0 points and 2.9 rebounds this season. ‘Mann has been an important part of our organization, and we are excited to see how he will contribute in Atlanta,’ Frank noted.
Hyland, drafted 26th overall by the Denver Nuggets in 2021, averaged 7.2 points per game with the Clippers this season. At just 24 years old, he represents a potential future asset for the Hawks. ‘We see a lot of upside in Hyland’s game, and look forward to his development in our system,’ remarked Fields.
The trade also includes three future second-round picks from the Clippers, specifically a 2025 pick from Minnesota, a 2027 pick from Los Angeles, and a protected 2026 selection from Memphis. This aspect of the trade reflects the Hawks’ strategy to build for the future while gaining valuable rotational players in return.
As the trade deadline approaches, teams are vying to optimize their rosters for playoff contention. The Clippers currently sit sixth in the Western Conference and hope Bogdanović’s addition bolsters their chances as they navigate a competitive postseason landscape.
