Hayley Matthews Achieves 100th WT20I Wicket Milestone
West Indies cricket captain Hayley Matthews achieved a personal milestone in the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 by taking her 100th wicket in WT20I matches. The landmark was reached during a closely contested fixture against Scotland at the Dubai International Stadium on Sunday.
The right-arm off-break bowler secured her 100th wicket by dismissing Scottish opener Saskia Horley, who had scored 11 runs off nine balls. This achievement underscores Matthews’ significant contribution to the West Indies women’s cricket team.
Prior to this match, Matthews had taken 98 WT20I wickets for West Indies and an additional two while representing Barbados. Her accomplishment marks her as only the second player from the West Indies to reach this milestone. Anisa Mohammed was the first, with a career total of 125 WT20I wickets.
The 26-year-old Matthews also boasts an impressive batting record, having scored 2,349 runs in 97 T20I innings. Her performance continues to be instrumental in shaping the competitive edge of the West Indies women’s cricket team on the global stage.
