Georgia Tech Football Haynes King Jy Gilmore

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech’s Haynes King and Jy Gilmore have been recognized for their outstanding performances following the Yellow Jackets’ 27-18 win over Duke on October 20, 2025. King was named the Atlantic Coast Conference’s Quarterback of the Week, while Gilmore earned the title of Defensive Back of the Week.

King, hailing from Longview, Texas, showcased his dual-threat capability by netting 325 yards of total offense, consisting of 205 passing and 120 rushing. Notably, he made a significant impact in the second half, racking up 240 of those yards and leading the team to scores on four consecutive drives. His performance culminated in a 28-yard touchdown run, marking his 10th touchdown of the season.

By reaching a total of 205 passing yards, King also became the fifth player in Georgia Tech history to surpass 6,000 career passing yards. Moreover, he made history as the first player to achieve this milestone while playing only three seasons at the school. He further distinguished himself by becoming the fourth NCAA Division I FBS quarterback since 2015 to record double-digit rushing touchdowns in three consecutive seasons.

On the defensive side, Gilmore made his mark with 11 tackles, including 1.5 tackles for loss and a half sack. His defensive efforts were pivotal, holding Duke to a season-low of just 68 rushing yards and limiting them to less than half of their average scoring. Gilmore’s performance was particularly crucial in the second half as he helped secure a dominant defensive stance against the Blue Devils.

King’s recognition as Quarterback of the Week is his third this season and sixth overall in his career. For Gilmore, this marks his first conference accolade since transferring from Georgia State.

Georgia Tech is set to return home on October 25 for a matchup against Syracuse, with kickoff scheduled for noon at Bobby Dodd Stadium at Hyundai Field. This game will also be part of the homecoming celebrations.
