Hbcu Football Teams And Matchups

Jackson, Mississippi

The 2025 HBCU football season is reaching its conclusion, with high stakes for several teams as they fight for championship positioning. Eleven teams still have hopes for a title as the regular season nears its end.

In the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC), two of the top teams face off this weekend. A significant matchup features Morgan State (3-7, 0-3 MEAC) taking on Norfolk State (1-9, 0-3 MEAC) on Saturday at noon. Even though both teams are struggling, they have remained competitive against the MEAC’s strongest teams recently.

“This matchup could be a nail-biter,” said an analyst. “Both teams have their strengths, and it might come down to a quarterback battle.” Norfolk State’s Otto Kuhns has thrown for 738 yards with seven touchdowns, while Morgan State’s Raymond Moore III has 699 total yards and six touchdowns.

Later in the day, Delaware State (7-3, 3-0 MEAC) will host Howard (4-6, 1-2 MEAC). Delaware State is aiming for a strong finish after a recent low-scoring win against Morgan State. Howard, despite their record, has historically done well against Delaware State.

Meanwhile, Prairie View A&M looks to clinch its third Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) West Division title in five years with a win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff (3-6, 2-4 SWAC). That game will take place Saturday at 3 PM.

Not to be overlooked, South Carolina State (7-3, 3-0 MEAC) and North Carolina Central (7-3, 2-1 MEAC) will meet on Friday. The Eagles boast a strong passing offense, while the Bulldogs are on a winning streak.

“This season has shown that every game counts,” said a coach from South Carolina State. “We’re focused on staying at the top of the standings.”

The pressure is mounting as teams eye the playoffs. The regular season’s final weeks will determine who secures a spot in the impending championship games.
