Northern Blue Mountains Heat Advisory

Pendleton, Oregon – The National Weather Service issued a heat advisory on Friday at 1:34 p.m., set to take effect from 11 a.m. on Sunday until 9 p.m. on Tuesday. The advisory warns of ‘hot conditions with temperatures up to 101 degrees expected,’ presenting a moderate to major risk of heat-related illnesses.

The weather service urged residents, especially outdoor workers, to take precautions. ‘Hot temperatures may cause heat illnesses,’ the service stated, recommending that everyone stay informed and protect themselves from the dangerous effects of the heat.

In addition to the heat advisory, a Wind Advisory is also in effect for Saturday evening in Eastern Oregon. This advisory will remain active from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. PDT, with wind gusts of 25 to 35 mph and gusts reaching over 50 mph. This poses risks for unsecured objects, tree limbs, and power lines.

Travelers on U.S. Highway 395, particularly those in high-profile vehicles, are advised to avoid driving during peak gust hours. Sunday is expected to bring a shift in weather, with sunny skies and highs in the mid to upper 70s across Oregon.

By midweek, calm and dry conditions are projected, with temperatures in the low to mid-80s statewide. Although smoke from Canadian wildfires may affect visibility, no air quality alerts have been issued at this time. As summer approaches, temperature increases are anticipated, with alerts expected to evolve if conditions change.
