DALLAS — A significant weather system is expected to bring widespread rain to the North Texas area beginning Monday night and continuing into Wednesday morning. The National Weather Service has issued alerts for potential disruptions due to the heavy rain anticipated over the next few days.
North Texas experienced moist and cool air on Monday, resulting in wet and dreary conditions that persisted throughout the day. Rain coverage is predicted to reach 100% overnight, causing additional scattered showers primarily through the Tuesday morning commute.
According to Scott Padgett, Chief Meteorologist at CBS 11, “Widespread showers are expected, with heavier pockets of rain developing at times. While the rain overnight may appear disruptive, it will not be severe.”
As the rain begins to wane Tuesday afternoon, another disturbance is forecast to roll in overnight into early Wednesday. Heavy showers and possible thunder are expected before the system clears out by late Wednesday morning, concluding what has been classified as a First Alert Weather Day.
Looking ahead, a cold front is anticipated to sweep through Thursday, leading to dramatically lower temperatures across the region. Lows may plunge to well below freezing, with the National Weather Service advising residents to protect people, pets, pipes, and plants during this time.
Several areas may receive between 0.5 to 1 inch of rain during this weather event, as thermometer readings settle into the upper 30s to 40s for maximum temperatures.
“After a comparatively warm weekend, the sudden drop in temperatures could catch some off guard, so it’s essential to prepare accordingly,” Padgett noted.
Forecasts for the remainder of the week indicate that temperatures will remain cooler than normal until Saturday, when highs could reach the mid-60s before another front moves in on Sunday. Following the expected rain this week, weather alerts indicate that precautions should be taken against possible ice hazards in surrounding areas.
North Texas residents should stay informed by downloading the WFAA app for real-time updates and alerts regarding the changing weather conditions.
