Heisman Trophy Finalists Announced: Travis Hunter, Ashton Jeanty, and Dillon Gabriel Lead the Pack
The finalists for the 2024 Heisman Trophy were announced on Monday, and the list includes some of the most outstanding players in college football this season. Leading the pack is Colorado‘s versatile star Travis Hunter, who is favored to win the award with odds of -2400. Hunter’s impressive performance as both a wide receiver and a cornerback has set him apart, with 92 receptions for 1,152 yards and 14 touchdowns on offense, and 31 tackles, 11 pass breakups, and four interceptions on defense.
Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty is the second favorite, with odds of +1000. Jeanty has dominated on the ground, leading the nation with 2,497 rushing yards and tying for second with 29 rushing touchdowns. His performance has been instrumental in Boise State securing the No. 3 seed in the College Football Playoff and a first-round bye.
Oregon quarterback Dillon Gabriel rounds out the top three finalists, although his odds are significantly lower at +40000. Gabriel had a standout game in the Big Ten Conference title, throwing for four touchdowns and 282 yards on 22-for-32 completions in a 45-37 win over the Penn State Nittany Lions.
Notably absent from the list of finalists is Arizona State running back Cam Skattebo, despite his strong performance in the Big 12 title game. Skattebo ranks second in the nation in all-purpose yards and has been highly effective in the fourth quarter, but his late surge in the Heisman conversation appears to have come too late to secure a spot among the finalists.
