Helldivers 2 players on Steam are expressing frustration over the mandatory requirement to link their PlayStation Network accounts to continue playing the game on PC.

Sony Interactive Entertainment, the publisher of Helldivers 2, issued a notice to players on Thursday outlining the upcoming changes.

The decision to make PlayStation Network linking mandatory was explained as crucial for player safety and security within the game by Sony.

Players who have been enjoying Helldivers 2 on Windows PC through Steam will need to connect their Steam and PlayStation Network accounts by the specified deadlines.

Starting May 6, new players will be required to link accounts, while existing players will have until June 4 to do so.

Some players have raised concerns over the sudden requirement, especially in regions where creating a PlayStation Network account is not possible, such as South Africa, Belarus, and Lithuania.

Outcry on Steam has led to an increase in negative reviews for Helldivers 2 following the announcement.

Arrowhead, the developer of Helldivers 2, has directed players with questions to PlayStation Support for assistance with the linking process.

It remains to be seen how this change will impact the player base of Helldivers 2 on PC and if any adjustments will be made in response to the backlash.
