CONCORD, N.C. (WBTV) – Jon Edwards, a key executive at Hendrick Motorsports, passed away on Thursday, leaving behind a legacy of dedication and professionalism. The announcement was made by the race team, which described Edwards as a “longtime friend, teammate and director of racing communications.”

The statement emphasized Edwards’ remarkable ability to foster meaningful relationships within the racing community. While the cause of death and the specific duration of his tenure at the team were not disclosed, March 27 marked his 31st anniversary with Hendrick’s iconic No. 24 car.

Former driver Jeff Gordon expressed his sorrow, stating he was “devastated” by the news. “For almost three decades, we were side by side through every high and low, every celebration, and every challenge,” Gordon said. “He was one of the most loyal, hardworking and selfless people I’ve ever known, and I will be forever grateful for his immeasurable impact on my life and my career. My heart is with Jon’s family and everyone who loved him. He was truly one of a kind.”

Current Hendrick Motorsports driver Kyle Larson also shared his feelings on social media, stating, “A sad day for everyone close to Jon. I will always be grateful for the memories we made and the laughs we shared along the way. He made a lasting impact on my life, and I will miss him deeply.”

Members of the NASCAR media have also paid tribute to Edwards, including notable reporters Bob Pockrass and Jeff Gluck, former radio announcer Dave Moody, and FOX studio host Chris Myers. Their statements reflect the respect and admiration Edwards garnered over the years.

Since joining Hendrick Motorsports 31 years ago, Edwards contributed to the team’s impressive record of more than 275 Cup Series victories, along with all 14 of its Cup championships. Four of those championships were secured with Gordon driving.

Edwards was approximately 53 years old at the time of his passing.
