In a match marked by an exceptional goalkeeping display, Ander Astralaga proved to be the savior for Barça Atlètic in their league match against Ponferradina. The game ended in a 1-1 draw, marking the third consecutive tie for the Barça reserve team, largely due to Astralaga’s remarkable performance.

Barça Atlètic faced Ponferradina with the aim of securing their first away victory of the season. The absence of key players led to a shuffled lineup, with the inclusion of Darvich as a false right winger, taking over from Toni Fernández. Early in the match, Ponferradina capitalized on a defensive mistake by Álvaro Cortés, with José Luis Cortés scoring the opening goal for the home team.

As the game progressed, Barça Atlètic started finding their rhythm, aided by Cuenca playing as a third center-back, which allowed them to press into the opponent’s area. A pivotal moment occurred when Trilli almost equalized, followed by a penalty being awarded to Barça Athlètic after Olmedo was fouled in the box. Although Unai‘s initial attempt was saved by Andrés Prieto, he managed to score on the rebound, leveling the match.

Despite a promising spell where Barça Atlètic controlled the game, they failed to convert several chances, with Guille missing a crucial opportunity to put his team ahead. As the first half concluded, Ponferradina applied pressure again, but Astralaga’s goalkeeping kept the score level.

In the second half, Barça Atlètic struggled to maintain momentum, finding themselves constantly countering Ponferradina’s persistent attacks. Astralaga’s exceptional work between the posts was crucial in denying Ponferradina’s scoring efforts, highlighted by saves against multiple key attempts from Carrique, Sibille, Cortés, and Costa.

Albert Sánchez, the coach, praised Astralaga’s performance, which underscored his potential since joining from Athletic Club. The team, while missing several attacking options due to injuries, notably those including 16-year-old forward Toni Fernández, remained determined, focusing on defense and seizing any attack opportunities.

The draw adds another game to Barça Atlètic’s record of undefeated away performances, albeit without a victory, reinforcing the need for improvement in upcoming home matches at the Johan Cruyff Stadium.
