NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) – High school basketball playoffs kicked off across Nebraska Friday, showcasing intense competition as teams aimed to advance in the postseason.

In the District A-2 Girls Tournament, North Platte overwhelmed Omaha South with a decisive score of 58-8. The semifinals are slated for Wednesday at Millard North, featuring top-seeded Millard North against fourth-seeded North Platte, along with second-seeded Papillion-LaVista facing third-seeded Columbus.

In local boys sub-district action, Ogallala triumphed against Chadron with an 82-53 victory in the C1-10 semifinals. Sidney edged Bridgeport 63-55 in another semifinal match. Other notable results included Filmore Central defeating Gothenburg 50-39 and Cozad defeating Minden by a score of 75-31.

In smaller sub-districts, Chase County secured a 66-56 win over Central City, and Sutton triumphed 58-48 over South Loup in the C2-8 semifinals. In the D1-11 semifinals, North Platte St. Pat’s dominated Sutherland 66-37, while Paxton narrowly beat Sandhills Valley, 32-31.

HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) – The excitement extended to Hastings, where girls finals in Class B and boys semifinals in Classes C and D highlighted the day’s action. Northwest edged McCook 49-47 in the B-7 final, while Seward defeated York 45-36 in the B-6 final.

In boys basketball, McCool Junction outperformed BDS with a strong 69-44 victory in the D1-3 semifinals. Osceola also emerged victorious against Deshler, winning 65-55 in another semifinal. St. Cecilia advanced with a 58-41 win over Palmer, and Blue Hill defeated Nebraska Christian 56-43.
