Wiaa Girls State Basketball Tournament

GREEN BAY, Wis. (WAOW) — The 2025 Girls State Basketball Tournament officially kicked off today, bringing together the top high school teams across Wisconsin for a thrilling competition at the Resch Center. The tournament spans March 13-15, where 15 games will be played over three days, culminating in championship games on Saturday.

Fans can catch all the excitement on local ABC (WIAA Network) stations or by streaming online. The tournament’s schedule showcases an array of talented teams, with Thursday featuring Divisions 3 and 4, followed by Divisions 1, 2, and 5 on Friday, leading to the championship matches on Saturday.

The title games are set to begin at 11 a.m. on March 15. The championship lineup includes:

“It’s really helpful for me to absorb as much information, that way when I see the game live in front of me here at state, I know it. I can more quickly go to a fact or storyline,” said Nick Tabbert, a member of the WIAA State Network team, reflecting on the extensive preparation involved.

Behind the broadcasts is a dedicated team of around 35 people, responsible for running cameras, mixing audio, directing, and creating graphics to ensure a seamless viewing experience. “And I know it means so much to everyone in the state. Cause so many people tune into this; they don’t have any participants out there. This is what they do at this week and next week in March, they turn this on. So I have been absolutely thrilled at how many people have come together to make this happen for everybody. It’s been awesome,” stated Melissa Gehring, assistant director with the WIAA.

Viewers can follow the action all weekend on WIAA network stations or stream the games on their respective websites or through the WIAA Sports Live app. The excitement continues next week with the boys tournament in Madison.
