Historic Weekend Looms for Falkirk and Stenhousemuir in cinch League 1 and cinch League 2
It’s a pivotal Easter weekend ahead for two Scottish football clubs on the brink of historic achievements in the cinch League 1 and cinch League 2 competitions.
Falkirk, currently leading the cinch League 1 table, have the opportunity to clinch the title and secure promotion to the cinch Championship with a victory over Montrose at Links Park on Saturday. Meanwhile, Stenhousemuir, in the driving seat in cinch League 2, could also seal their league triumph when they face Dumbarton at the Rock.
Falkirk, managed by John McGlynn, hold a commanding 17-point lead over their nearest rivals Hamilton Academical. A slip-up by Accies against Queen of the South, combined with a Falkirk win, would see the Bairns crowned champions before they even kick a ball. However, if Hamilton secure a victory, Falkirk will need to do the same to claim the title.
While Falkirk’s opponents, Montrose, have proven to be tough competitors this season, sitting in the promotion play-off places, Stewart Petrie’s side could be the ones to halt Falkirk’s impressive 32-match unbeaten run in cinch League 1.
In cinch League 2, Stenhousemuir, under the guidance of Gary Naysmith, are on the cusp of a historic first league title in 140 years. The Warriors have amassed a 15-point lead over their closest rivals Peterhead, who face Clyde at Balmoor this weekend.
A victory for Stenhousemuir coupled with dropped points by Peterhead would see the Warriors celebrate their long-awaited triumph. Even a draw for Stenny against Dumbarton would extend the race if Clyde manage to upset Peterhead. Any slip-up by Stenhousemuir could see the title fight move into the upcoming 32nd gameweek.
