Nba Historical Moments Wilt Chamberlain Lebron James

NEW YORK, N.Y. (AP) — On March 2, 1962, Wilt Chamberlain of the Philadelphia Warriors made history by scoring 100 points in a single game against the New York Knicks in Hershey, Pennsylvania. This remarkable achievement remains the highest single-game scoring record in NBA history.

Chamberlain’s performance included 36 field goals on 63 attempts and 28 successful free throws out of 32 attempts. He also grabbed 25 rebounds during the game, contributing to his impressive average of 50.4 points per game during the 1961-62 season, which still stands as an NBA record.

Fast forward to March 2, 2024, where LeBron James became the first player in NBA history to score 40,000 career points. In a game against the Denver Nuggets, James achieved this milestone with a scoop layup during the second quarter, although the Lakers ultimately lost 124-114. The sold-out crowd at Staples Center erupted in applause, giving him a standing ovation as he left the court.

Additionally, March 2 has a rich history in the NBA. On this day in 1951, the first NBA All-Star Game took place at Boston Garden, where Ed Macauley led the East to a 111-94 victory over the West, earning the game’s MVP award.

The various milestones recognized on March 2 underscore the transformative impact of key players in the league. From the formation of the Miami Heat‘s official logo in 1988 to the Denver Nuggets retiring Alex English‘s number 7 jersey in 1993, much has transpired within the NBA on this date over the years.

In light of these historical moments, fans and players alike continue to celebrate the legacies of greats like Chamberlain and James. Their achievements not only highlight individual excellence but also shape the narrative of the NBA.

James commented on reaching the 40,000-point milestone, stating, “It means I’ve put the work in, and I’m grateful to be able to still compete at this level. It’s a blessing.” His journey continues to captivate audiences and inspire the next generation of players.
