Hockey Legend Jean Guy Talbot Passes Away At 91

Legendary hockey player Jean-Guy Talbot, a native of Cap-de-la-Madeleine, has passed away at the age of 91. Talbot, known for his physical style of play and efficient counter-attacking skills, leaves behind a remarkable legacy in the hockey world.

Having played over 1000 games in the National Hockey League (LNH) and serving with the Montreal Canadiens, Talbot was instrumental in defending iconic players like Maurice Richard, Henri Richard, and Jean Béliveau. His presence both on and off the ice was crucial to the Canadiens’ success during their glory days in the late 1950s.

After bidding farewell to the Canadiens in 1967, Talbot embarked on a journey that included stints with the North Stars, Red Wings, Blues, and Sabres. His coaching career also saw him lead teams in Denver, St. Louis, and New York.

Despite living in the US for many years during his NHL career, Talbot never lost his connection to his hometown. His contributions to hockey and his community were honored with the renaming of the Cap-de-la-Madeleine arena to the Colisée du parc de l’Exposition.

Throughout the years, Talbot endured the loss of many former teammates, including the likes of legendary players such as Maurice Richard, Jean Béliveau, and Henri Richard. Despite the challenges in his later years, Talbot remained grateful for the support of his family and friends.

His impact on hockey, both as a player and a coach, solidifies his status as a significant figure in the sport’s history, especially in the region of Cap-de-la-Madeleine.
