Holly Archer Defends Running Outfit After London Marathon Criticism

London, England – Holly Archer, a 31-year-old British runner, completed the 2025 London Marathon on April 27, finishing in an impressive 2 hours and 39 minutes. However, her choice of attire—a pair of running briefs—sparked controversial discussions online.
Many social media users criticized Archer’s outfit, claiming it resembled a bikini and expressing concerns about her comfort during the race. Videos and posts containing comments about her appearance flooded the internet after she shared her marathon experience on social media.
“Should I have worn a tracksuit?” Archer responded in a follow-up video, addressing the negative remarks directly. She explained that the day of the marathon featured high humidity, nearly 78 percent, with temperatures soaring to the mid-70s.
Despite the backlash, Archer received substantial support from her fans. While some comments were dismissive, others celebrated her achievement and athleticism. One supporter remarked, “Anyone moaning about what you’re wearing doesn’t understand the hard work it takes to finish a marathon in 2.5 hours.”
The London Marathon had over 56,000 participants this year, showcasing a wide range of athletic abilities and experiences. Archer managed to stand out not only by her time but also by highlighting a significant issue in sports attire, particularly regarding the different standards imposed on male and female athletes.
After the race, Archer expressed pride in her accomplishment. “The crowds, the noise, the energy, it’s something I’ll never forget,” she stated in an Instagram post. “I wouldn’t change a thing, except maybe the weather.” Archer remains committed to her sport and continues to inspire others through her resilience and performance.
