The Houston Texans announced on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, that they have signed linebacker Devin White. White, who is just 26 years old, was released by the Philadelphia Eagles earlier this month after signing a one-year deal with the team in the offseason.

White spent his first five NFL seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where he established himself as a formidable defensive player. In the 2023 season, he played in 14 games for the Buccaneers, accumulating 83 total tackles, five tackles for loss, nine quarterback hits, and 2.5 sacks. He also recorded five passes defensed and two interceptions during that period.

Drafted as the No. 5 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, White has an impressive career record. He has appeared in 76 games with 75 starts, tallying 23.0 sacks, 40 tackles for loss, 64 quarterback hits, 21 passes defended, and three interceptions. His addition to the Texans is expected to bolster their defensive lineup.

White did not see any regular-season action with the Eagles this year, being inactive for the first four games of the season. His signing with the Texans comes as the team prepares to host their division-rival Indianapolis Colts on Sunday.

The move is seen as a potential boost for the Texans’ defense, especially with the guidance of their coaching staff. Fans and analysts are optimistic that White can return to his Pro Bowl form under the Texans’ system).
