Hoyas Face Blue Demons in Crucial Big East Tournament Matchup

NEW YORK, March 12, 2025 — The Georgetown Hoyas, seeded No. 7, prepare to take on the No. 10 seed DePaul Blue Demons in the first round of the Big East men’s basketball tournament. The game will tip off at 6:30 p.m. ET at Madison Square Garden.
Georgetown (17-14, 8-12 Big East) enters the matchup as 4.5-point favorites against the Blue Demons (13-18, 4-16 Big East), with an over/under of 144.5 points for the game.
The Hoyas are looking to regain their footing after a challenging end to the regular season, having lost four of their last five games, including a recent 83-77 defeat to DePaul. Georgetown head coach Patrick Ewing emphasized the importance of consistency. “We’ve had too many ups and downs lately. We need to focus on playing our game and minimizing mistakes,” he said.
DePaul is entering the tournament on a positive note, riding a two-game winning streak, which includes the victory over Georgetown where they shot an impressive 56.6% from the field and 53.3% from beyond the arc.
C.J. Gunn has been a standout player for DePaul, contributing significantly to their offensive scheme this season. The Blue Demons average 72.6 points per game while shooting 44.4% from the field. However, they have struggled with rebounding, ranking 200th nationally with a total rebounding percentage of 49.7.
Georgetown has shown strength defensively, allowing just 64.7 points per game and holding opponents to a 42.4% shooting percentage. “Our defense has been our backbone, and if we can impose that will today, we’ll have a solid chance,” Ewing noted.
On the injury front, Georgetown will be missing center Julius Halaifonua due to an ankle injury, while DePaul is dealing with several injuries, including guard Conor Enright and forward N.J. Benson.
