Carolina Hurricanes Vs Washington Capitals Playoffs

MORRISVILLE, N.C. — The Carolina Hurricanes are sticking to their game plan despite scoring only three goals in their first two playoff games against the Washington Capitals. The Hurricanes have attempted 180 shots, but they are not changing how they play.

“Absolutely not,” said Hurricanes defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere. “That’s our style. That’s what we do.” The Hurricanes have taken 61 shots on goal, while the Capitals managed only 35 in their previous game.

In spite of firing 94 total shot attempts in Game 1, the Hurricanes won 2-1 in overtime on Tuesday. However, they lost 3-1 in Game 2 and now face a crucial Game 3 on Saturday at 6 p.m. ET at Lenovo Center.

Washington coach Spencer Carbery noted the Capitals needed to improve their defensive play after Game 2, where they blocked 34 shots.

Hurricanes head coach Rod Brind'Amour emphasized the importance of maintaining their offensive pressure. “We’ve got to keep doing what we do. If we get off of it, we’re lessening our chances to win,” Brind’Amour said.

Statistically, during the regular season, the Hurricanes led the league in offensive attempts. They averaged 38.5 shot attempts per game that were blocked or missed. However, the pressure is mounting given that their playoff history shows a tendency to struggle during crucial series.

Hurricanes forward Sebastian Aho pointed out that their opponents, the Capitals, are playing a solid defensive game. “They have done a good job blocking shots,” Aho said. “We need to stick with what we do and keep pushing for chances to score.”

Both teams have shown they can play strong hockey. However, Carolina must turn its high volume of attempts into goals as they return home.

With a loud, supportive crowd expected at Lenovo Center, players hope home ice will provide the boost needed to regain control of the series.
