Inter Miami Cf Player Ian Fray Red Card Appeal

MIAMI, Fla. — Inter Miami CF defender Ian Fray has had his red card unanimously rescinded by the Independent Review Panel after a successful appeal by the club following their 4-1 victory over Houston Dynamo FC on March 2, 2025. The panel’s decision reinstates Fray for the upcoming match against Charlotte FC on March 9 at Chase Stadium.

The Independent Review Panel, comprised of representatives from the U.S. Soccer Federation, Canadian Soccer Association, and an independent official from the Professional Referee Organization, concluded that Fray’s actions did not warrant the red card initially issued by the game referee.

Fray’s red card was the result of an incident following the match, where Houston Dynamo player Ethan Andrew Bartlow grabbed Fray’s jersey in an apparent attempt to provoke a reaction. Referee was reported to have issued the card without fully assessing the situation. Inter Miami head coach Javier Mascherano expressed his dissatisfaction with the call during the post-match press conference.

“I saw the video. Ian did nothing. He did absolutely nothing,” Mascherano stated. “This is not subjective; what we all see must be considered.” His comments underscored the coach’s belief that the referee’s decision was unjust and reflected broader concerns over officiating standards.

With the successful appeal, Inter Miami retains its two unsuccessful appeals available for the remainder of the 2025 season, maintaining strategic advantage in future disciplinary scenarios. The club is now preparing for a busy schedule, which includes the upcoming match against Charlotte FC and a Concacaf Champions League tie against Jamaican club Cavalier FC.

“Our successful appeal is a testament to our commitment to advocate for our players,” said Inter Miami’s management. “We remain focused on the tasks ahead as we gear up for these crucial matches.”
