Iga Świątek Battles Dajana Jastremska at Indian Wells Tournament

INDIAN WELLS, California — Iga Świątek faces off against Dajana Jastremska in the third round of the WTA 1000 Indian Wells tournament today, March 9, 2025. Świątek, the second seed, is defending her title and has quickly advanced through the tournament, while Jastremska hopes to continue her surprising run.
In her opening matches, Świątek displayed impressive form, defeating Caroline Garcia 6-2, 6-0 in just 61 minutes. Jastremska, on the other hand, defeated Yue Yuan 6-2, 6-4, and pulled off an upset against Ons Jabeur, winning 6-3, 6-1.
The two players have faced each other twice before, with Jastremska winning their first encounter in 2019 during the Billie Jean King Cup, 7-6(2), 6-4. In their most recent match on February 19 in Dubai, Świątek emerged victorious, 7-5, 6-0.
“It’s always tough to play against a player like Dajana,” Świątek said prior to the match. “I know she can play exceptionally well, so I have to bring my best game.”
Świątek, who won the Indian Wells title last year by defeating Maria Sakkari, is keen on maintaining her strong performance as she progresses through the tournament. To reach the fourth round, she must overcome the challenge presented by Jastremska.
Both players are expected to take the court at 7:00 p.m. Pacific Time. Fans are eager to witness this matchup live, although early attendance at the tournament has not been as robust as anticipated.
“I know I have to focus and stay composed during the match,” Jastremska stated ahead of their encounter. “Facing a strong opponent like Iga reminds me to elevate my game.”
With Świątek’s current WTA ranking at No. 2 and Jastremska at their 46th, this match will be crucial for both players as they look to secure their spot in the tournament’s later rounds.
