Iga Swiatek Wta Finals 2024

Iga Swiatek has achieved a notable milestone at the 2024 WTA Finals in Riyadh, emulating a feat previously accomplished by tennis legends Serena and Venus Williams. Swiatek dominated Daria Kasatkina in her third and final round robin match, winning 6-1, 6-0 in just 53 minutes.

Swiatek, the world No. 2 and five-time Grand Slam winner, broke Kasatkina five times and did not face a single break point throughout the match. She won 51 of the 74 total points played, showcasing a commanding performance.

This victory marks Swiatek’s 10th win against an opponent ranked in the top 10 of the WTA Rankings in 2024. This achievement makes her only the third woman to earn 10 or more wins against top 10 players in three consecutive seasons since 2000, a feat also achieved by Venus Williams between 2000 and 2002 and Serena Williams between 2012 and 2014.

Swiatek’s performance also saw her equal Serena Williams’ tally of five sets won by a scoreline of 6-0 at the WTA Finals. Only Martina Navratilova, Chris Evert, and Steffi Graf have won more such sets in the history of the women’s year-end championships.

Swiatek’s chances of advancing to the semi-finals now depend on the outcome of the match between Coco Gauff and Barbora Krejcikova. If Gauff wins, Swiatek will secure a spot in the semi-finals; otherwise, she will be eliminated if Krejcikova prevails.
