Iga Swiatek, World No. 1 In Tennis, Suffers Stunning Defeat At Wimbledon Third Round

World No. 1 Iga Swiatek suffered a stunning defeat in the third round of Wimbledon to Yulia Putintseva, ending her remarkable 21-match winning streak. Swiatek, a dominant force in tennis with multiple Grand Slam titles including the French Open and the U.S. Open, faced difficulties on the grass courts of the All England Club.

While Swiatek has excelled on red clay, her performance on grass has historically been challenging, with Wimbledon being the major tournament where she has faced the most struggle.

Yulia Putintseva, ranked 35th, surprised tennis fans with an impressive victory over Swiatek, extending her own winning streak on grass. Putintseva’s triumph marked her first time progressing past the second round in her ten appearances at Wimbledon, a notable achievement for the Kazakh player.

The unexpected outcome of the match was intensified by Swiatek’s previous dominance over Putintseva, having won all four previous encounters without dropping a set. Putintseva’s victory sets up a compelling fourth-round clash with 2017 French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko.

Several other notable players advanced in the Wimbledon tournament, including Barbora Krejcikova, Anna Kalinskaya, Elina Svitolina, and Wang Xinyu. In the men’s singles, top players like Alexander Zverev, Daniil Medvedev, and Jannik Sinner secured wins, showcasing their prowess on the grass courts.

A particularly standout performance came from American player Ben Shelton, who clinched a thrilling victory in a five-set battle against Denis Shapovalov. Shelton’s impressive run at Wimbledon highlighted his potential in the competition.
