Katy, Texas — Igloo Products Corp. announced a voluntary recall of over 1 million 90-quart Flip & Tow Rolling Coolers following reports of injuries, including fingertip amputations. The recall, issued by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), comes after the company received 12 reports of users injuring their fingers when the tow handle pinched against the cooler.
n
The affected coolers, sold between January 2019 and January 2025 for prices ranging from $80 to $140, pose potential crushing and amputation hazards. The CPSC’s announcement highlighted that the tow handle design can cause serious injuries.
n
“The tow handle can pinch consumers’ fingertips against the cooler, posing fingertip amputation and crushing hazards,” stated the CPSC in its news release. The recalled coolers, which feature various body and lid color combinations, are imprinted with a manufacture date found on the bottom in a circular pattern.
n
Individuals who purchased the coolers are urged to stop using them immediately and contact Igloo Products for a free replacement handle. The CPSC’s release outlined that the products can still be identified by the “IGLOO” label on the handle, with nearly 50 different model numbers associated with the recalled units.
n
“With consumer safety as our top priority, we have voluntarily issued a recall… and have provided consumers with a proper course of action that includes a free replacement handle,” said Igloo in a statement.
n
The recall affects approximately 1,060,000 coolers that were made in the U.S. before January 2024. The incidents reported to the CPSC involve significant injuries, including amputations, lacerations, and bone fractures.
n
Recalled products were available at major retailers including Target, Costco, Academy Sports + Outdoors, and Dick’s Sporting Goods, alongside online platforms such as Amazon and Igloocoolers.com.
n
The CPSC has advised consumers who believe they have a recalled cooler to contact Igloo for further instructions. Consumers can reach the company toll-free at 888-943-5182 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET, Monday through Friday, or by email at [email protected] to request a free replacement handle.
